Large McCoy Pottery ceramic beer stein mug in vintage condition.
The colors are vibrant, and it is decorated with a German tavern scene with the flint-lock handle.
It measures about 21 cm (8.5") tall. The top opening is 10.8 cm (4.25") and the bottom diameter is 15.8 cm (6.25"). It is quite hefty, weighing slightly over 1.5 kg unpacked.
The incised mark of shallow letters under the glaze reads MCP (for McCoy Pottery) USA, with the mold number 6029. I believe this particular piece is from the late 60s. The Nelson McCoy Pottery was purchased by Mount Clemens Pottery in 1967, and the first marks used by the new owners did not include the name McCoy. A new logo that was shaped like a pitcher was introduced, and an abbreviated form of the name of McCoy Pottery was placed under this new logo as MCP. Later on, Mount Clemens Pottery probably recognized the value of using the name McCoy on their pottery products, and reintroduced it again in 1968.
