Antique late 19th century hand-painted Staffordshire pottery pearlware group figure known as "The Drunken Parson And The Clerk".
The drunk man is meant to be a parson or pastor, holding a bottle under his arm and a cup in his hand, while the sober man is his clerk, holding a lantern to help the pastor home.
It is 20 cm (8.25") tall, 17.5 cm (7") wide and 10 cm (4") deep, weighing about 1 kg unpacked.
The figurine is in good antique condition, showing normal signs of wear consistent with its age. There is visible crazing, which is expected. There are no broken parts or repairs. There is a 3mm (0.1") wide tiny chip on the lower side edge of the base, which is pointed at with a red arrow in one of the pictures. The underside us unmarked, which is normal.
Pearlware was designed to meet the growing demand for affordable substitutes for more expensive Chinese porcelain. Figurines like this one with humorous themes were popular in England and decorated many homes.
