Rare and elegant post WWII period JLMENAU Graf von Henneberg porcelain trinket box.
Manufactured in Thuringia, Germany, circa 1949–1955, this piece stands out as a unique relic of early Cold War history. The underside features the factory's classic green crown mark over-stamped with a distinct gold "East-Germany" lettering, which was used for a very brief window following the partition of Germany to denote production in the Soviet-occupied zone before standardizing to "GDR" marks. It also features the gold artist/pattern number "25" hand-painted on the glaze.
The box features a vibrant teal/turquoise glaze. The removable domed lid is adorned with a beautiful, colorful hand-applied floral bouquet medallion surrounded by intricate, ornate gold scroll-work and trim. The rounded oval body rests gracefully on three delicate feet highlighted with bright gold detailing.
Very good vintage condition with no chips, cracks, repairs, or crazing. The glaze is clean, the floral medallion is pristine, and the gold scroll-work remains bright with some normal wear consistent with its age.
It is 8.5 cm tall, 11.5 cm wide and 9 cm deep.
