Design: Art Nouveau cherry blossom motif on a vivid yellow and glossy black background with geometric checkerboard trim.
Condition: Very good antique condition with bright enamels and intact gloss glaze with age-consistent crazing. No post-production chips, cracks, fleabites, or repairs. There is a factory imperfection that features a prominent kiln split (firing crack) near the base, as shown in close-up photos. The black paint and outer glaze flow smoothly into the groove, confirming it occurred during production over 100 years ago. It is completely sealed and structurally stable.
The backstamp on the base refines the date to between 1912 and 1920. The central mark featuring a crown and a lion rampant holding a banner that reads "Royal Staffordshire Pottery" above "Wilkinson Ltd. England" is the official trademark used by the company during the 1910s. The presence of the word "England" without "Made in England" aligns perfectly with pre-1921 manufacturing rules. Painted in black script, 6119 is the official Wilkinson pattern number corresponding to the "Spring" design. The blue "X." is an individual artisan's signature or "gilder's mark." It was used by the factory to track which specific pottery decorator hand-finished the colorful cherry blossom details, allowing them to calculate piece-rate wages.
