Stunning 1970s mid-century modern tear-shaped pitcher vase.
Expertly crafted by Canadiana Pottery Limited, this piece features a brilliant flame-orange and deep charcoal-brown volcanic drip glaze reminiscent of the iconic West German "Fat Lava" era art pottery.
Historical Background: Canadiana Pottery was founded by master ceramicist Alfred Dube, the former managing director of the legendary Blue Mountain Pottery. This piece features the company’s definitive post-expansion backstamp on the base: "MADE IN CANADA BY CANADIANA POTTERY LIMITED". An excellent indicator of its authentic Canadian heritage is the vibrant unglazed red clay ring visible along the bottom footing—sourced from regional clay beds in Ingleside, Ontario, rather than the white clay typical of European imports.
It is 19 cm tall, 14 cm wide and 14 cm deep, weighing about 750 grams unpacked.
The underside is stamped, and althoughit is a bit hard to read, it says "MADE IN CANADA BY CANADIANA POTTERY LIMITED ".
It is in very good vintage condition without any chips, cracks, repairs or crazing.
