Antique Pirkenhammer Gotham Austria Persian-Revival Ovoid Cabinet Vase (c. 1891 to 1918)
An exceptional piece of turn-of-the-century European art porcelain cabinet vase, manufactured by the historic Fischer and Mieg (Pirkenhammer) workshop near Carlsbad, Bohemia (modern-day Czech Republic) during the Austro-Hungarian Empire era.
This piece features the rare Gotham Austria export mark, which was reserved for elite porcelain blanks destined for high-end North American retailers and premier decorating studios.
It is 19 cm tall, 17 cm wide and 17 cm deep, weighing about 1.2 kg unpacked.
It features a classic globular, standalone ovoid shape with a short, elegant raised collar rim. The intricate Persian and Iznik-revival motifs were popular in Central Europe at the turn of the century. The vertical panels showcase delicate hand-enameled stylized floral rosettes and foliate accents.
The top stamp on the underside is the green crown over two crossed hammers with script Gotham Austria (Fischer and Mieg factory mark used between 1891 and 1918). The bottom stamp is a green circular laurel wreath containing the initials P and S, identifying the specific high-end decorating studio or regional distributor responsible for the exquisite hand-gilded work.
CONDITION:
Overall, it is in very good antique condition without any chips, cracks, flea bites, or repairs. There is honest, age-appropriate gilt rubbing directly along the topmost circular edge of the rim (visible as dark rubbing where the gold has thinned over decades of handling). Enamel panels and body gilding remain bright and well-preserved with age-consistent surface wear.
