Antique late Victorian Royal Vienna style porcelain bowl, dating from the historicist revival period (circa 1880–1910).

This footed bon bon dish features vibrant maroon-red and rich green paneled borders, beautifully contrasted by heavy, intricate 24k gold-gilt stenciling and elaborate classical motifs.

The bowl is framed by two distinctive, stylized animalistic handles finished in bright gold gilding. The underside bears the classic blue underglaze "beehive" (Bindenschild) mark accompanied by the stamped "AUSTRIA" designation.

It is 6.5 cm tall, 13.5 cm wide with the handles and 12.5 cm deep, weighing about 250 grams unpacked.

The History Behind the "Royal Vienna Style":

This piece is a good example of the late-Victorian "Historicist Revival." While it features the famous blue underglaze "beehive" mark—originally the coat of arms for the Imperial Austrian House of Habsburg—the stamped "AUSTRIA" text identifies it as a high-quality, independent turn-of-the-century tribute. Following the permanent closure of the original Imperial and Royal Porcelain Manufactory of Vienna in 1864, skilled private factories across the region revived these famously opulent, gold-heavy designs to meet global demand, stamping them with the country of origin to comply with the McKinley Tariff Act of 1890. It is a genuine, beautifully crafted 100+ year old antique that honors the pinnacle of Austrian porcelain artistry.

CONDITION:

Very good antique condition. No chips, cracks, or structural repairs. Considering its age, the gold-gilt preservation is remarkable with only normal, age-appropriate shelf wear to the base rim and the handles.
