Antique hand-painted porcelain pedestal compote bowl, meticulously decorated and signed by independent studio artisan M. Beacom.
This stunning piece of 20th-century ceramic exemplifies the famous "China Painting" art movement of the mid-20th century. Independent artists during this era purchased raw, white fine-porcelain blanks imported from high-end European manufacturers—as evidenced by the hand-painted "German" origin mark alongside the artist's signature on the base. The artist then applied custom designs, glazes, and accents in their private studio kilns.
Design Features:
Interior Finish: An exquisite, iridescent mother-of-pearl lusterware glaze that catches and dynamically shifts light across a beautiful pastel rainbow spectrum.
Exterior Motif: Vivid, hand-painted fiery orange-red poppy flower clusters with detailed green foliage, beautifully contrasted against a dramatic, high-gloss jet-black body.
Accents: A continuous, delicate metallic Structure: A wide, shallow bowl that transitions elegantly into a tapered pedestal stem and flared circular foot. Note that the bowl features a charming, slight factory tilt/lean—a very common characteristic of handmade multi-part assembly and kiln-warping from this era, confirming its authentic studio origin.
It is 7 cm tall, 10 cm in top diameter and 5 cm in base diameter, weighing about 100 grams unpacked.
CONDITION:
In very good vintage condition. The hand-painted poppies remain vibrant, the iridescent luster interior retains its brilliant shine, and the structural joints are solid. There are no chips, cracks or repairs.
