Exceptional vintage studio art glass vase.
Crafted with an advanced dual-layer casing technique, this heavy, oblate-shaped vessel features a deep, moody burgundy/amethyst glass core completely enveloped in a thick layer of clear solid glass. The exterior skin is expertly rolled in coarse, multi-colored glass frit, creating a beautiful "sugar glass" or "candy glass" crust that offers an incredible stone-like texture.
It is 14 cm tall, 10 cm wide and 8 cm deep, weighing a hefty 2 kg unpacked.
While unsigned, this piece beautifully showcases the organic textures popularized by vintage Japanese glass houses like Kurata Craft Glass and Kamei during the 1970s and 1980s. When placed near a sunny window or direct light source, the rough exterior granules catch the light brilliantly, making the dark inner pocket glow.
Excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs to the internal structure or base. The exterior frit coating is intact and beautifully preserved. The base shows minor age-consistent signs of shelf wear.
